Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson have shared an update from their coronavirus quarantine in Australia, saying they are taking it "one day at a time".

On Thursday, Hanks announced the news of their diagnosis on Twitter and revealed that both he and his wife had contracted the virus. The 63-year-old Oscar-winner said he felt like he had a cold, while Wilson, also 63, suffered from "chills".

Now, the couple has shared an update with their followers, telling fans that they are remaining positive and "following the advice of experts".

In a post on Instagram, Hanks wrote: "Hello folks. @ritawilson and I want to thank everyone here Down Under who are taking such good care of us.

"We have COVID-19 and are in isolation so we do not spread it to anyone else.

"There are those for whom it could lead to a very serious illness. We are taking it one-day-at-a-time.

"There are things we can all do to get through this by following the advice of experts and taking care of ourselves and each other, no?"

He added: "Remember, despite all the current events, there is no crying in baseball. Hanx."

Wilson shared a similar post on her account, writing:  "A little update below to all of you from@tomHanks and myself. So grateful for the outpouring of prayers, love and support. Means so much and strengthens us."

Shortly after the news that the couple had contracted the disease had broken, Hollywood stars took to social media in their droves to send Hanks and Wilson their well-wishes.

Tim Allen, who plays Buzz Lightyear in the Toy Story movies opposite Hanks as Woody, tweeted a picture of his character and said: "Woody, I should have made you two wear my space suits! You and Rita rest and get well!"

Mia Farrow, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Ellen DeGeneres, and Jameela Jamil also took to Twitter to send their regards to the couple.
