Irish actress Niamh Algar has revealed that she bonded with veteran director Ridley Scott through their mutual interest in boxing.

The Mullingar native so impressed the 82-year-old director with a video of her pugilistic skills and acting talent that he cast her in his new TV series Raised By Wolves.

Speaking to The Times, the actress also discussed her upcoming film Calm With Horses in which she stars with Barry Keoghan, who she has been friends with for at least ten years.


The new movie is produced by Michael Fassbender and tells the story of a criminal enforcer played by Keoghan who devises methods to get drug abusers to pay up in rural Ireland.

Algar also featured in the four-part drama Channel 4 drama The Virtues and she is also due to feature in Guy Ritchie's Cash Truck..

Calm With Horses is due in Irish cinemas March 13.
