Soap fans rejoice, Home and Away has confirmed that Angelo Rosetta, played by Luke Jacobz, will return to the show later this year.

39-year-old Luke Jacobz played the policeman in the Australian soap for three years, before leaving to pursue other projects back in 2011.

Announcing his surprise return on Instagram today, Jacobz ahared an image of the show's logo alongside the caption: "The secrets out.. I'm absolutely thrilled to be coming back to Home and Away! Angelo will be back as the drama continues in the Bay."

In a statement, Jacobz added:  "It’s been 10 years since I was last here so I’m really looking forward to meeting all the new cast and to see some old friends too.

"I’m so excited that my first scene back is with Ray (Alf) ! We all have so much to catch up on! The show has always delivered great Aussie drama and I’m thrilled to be part of the talented family once more."

He also told The Sydney Confidential that Home and Away producers contacted him in January about reprising his role.

He explained: "[Channel Seven executives] called me in and said 'How do you feel about Angelo coming back to the bay?' I said 'very good' – and almost straight away it was 'Ok, let's get a haircut, a wardrobe fitting and look at some scripts.'"

He added that he would be on the show for "a good few months" and confirmed that Angelo was not coming back to be killed off.
