Gilson reveals her pick to lift the DWTS glitterball trophy

Eliminated Dancing with the Stars contestant Glenda Gilson has revealed who she would like to see lifting the glitterball trophy this season.

The TV star and her professional partner Robert Rowiński became the second couple to be sent home from the hit dancing show last Sunday in an elimination that was a shock to many.

Speaking to RTÉ Entertainment, the former Xposé presenter said the competition is fierce this year and the trophy will be hotly contested.

"There's people in there that are so good, as we all know, then there's others that are really enjoying it, trying and giving it their all," she said.

"It's hard work, people aren't going in for an hour a week - they're going in every day and putting their heart and soul into it."

Gilson had words of praise for her former competitors. "Mary Kennedy and myself got on so well. She felt my pain, I felt her pain. All we did was laugh," she shared.

"I remember during the girl's group dance I caught Mary laughing at me, and I was like, 'Oh Mary, if you're laughing at me I must be really bad!'

"But she's getting through it and she's getting better every week. You can see the confidence in her, you can see the smile. She really enjoyed it."

Glenda Gilson says Mary Kennedy is "getting better every week"

She continued: "Then Michael Carruth, he's fighting his own battles because he's found it tough. Every week Michael has something, on Sunday I think it was his cape that was annoying him.

"Ryan [Andrews] is so good and he's such a lovely guy. I just love Ryan, he's fabulous. Lottie [Ryan], oh my God, she's like a pro dancer. You really enjoy them dancing.

"Sinéad [O'Carroll], fabulous person as well, and Gráinne [Gallanagh] and Brian [Dowling] - they're just the craic."

However, the TV presenter said she thinks former Kilkenny hurler Aidan Fogarty deserves to lift the glitterball trophy this year.

"But Aidan is my person," she added. "He's never danced before and he's put so much work into it and you can really see the discipline he has when he goes out there on the dancefloor.

"It's like he's out on the pitch. He just zones out; he can't see in front of him and he just goes through step by step by step.

"He's doing such a good job and he's a really nice guy as well. Aidan's my guy to win."

Dancing with the Stars continues on RTÉ One on Sunday at 6.30pm.
