Catastrophe star and co-writer Rob Delaney is not overly concerned about what his kids might hear him say on his new hour-long TV special Jackie, which is named after his pet lizard.

Delaney and his wife have two older sons and a younger one, born following his son Henry's death from a brain tumour.

Speaking to The Guardian, the 43-year-old actor and comedian said: "Watching an hour of my stand-up could never even dent the tonnage of hours that I've spent with them doing other (parental) things," he says.

"They’ll still think of me as the guy who won’t let them drink a Coke at breakfast."

Jackie, which has been available to view since Friday on Amazon Prime Video, explores loss, existential crises, being a dad, and the pros and cons of living in London. On the show, Delaney also recounts the adventures of Jackie, his pet lizard.

Aside from the pilot for a new comedy series on Channel 4, Delaney is set to appear in Tom and Jerry, The Good House and the untitled Home Alone reboot.

Delaney first contacted his Catastrophe co-star and co-writer, Irish actress Sharon Horgan, on Twitter.

He stands firmly by the hugely popular sitcom which first aired on Channel 4 in 2015 and ended its run last year.

"It still feels like an honest show," he said. "And hey, more people can relate to Catastrophe than my own life, having lost a child, and thank God for that. But I look back at that show and feel like I left it all on the field." He remarks on the concluding scene, in which Rob and Sharon swim in a dangerous stretch of water.

"We just really wanted to leave it up to the audience, as a show of respect to them. We were so grateful that anybody watched it at all, we wanted to give them something to mull over, to keep it working on their consciousness."
