First Dates Ireland contestant Rob from Limerick has revealed if he and his date Leona have become romantically involved since appearing on the show.

The pair hit it off straight away when they met in the restaurant, connecting over their shared love of tattooing, the Backstreet Boys and taxidermy crows.

30-year-old musician Rob told RTÉ Entertainment that they were "vibing" on the date.

"On the date it just seemed like we were so similar", he said. "She seemed like everything I asked for on paper. I was really impressed that they managed to find someone that liked the same music, that was heavily tattooed, that was into taxidermy, you can't make this stuff up.

"This is not the stuff I find on Tinder."

However, when asked if they had stayed in touch, he replied: "I think sometimes things are really good on paper and ultimately, a little deeper down, it's not the right time, or things are different.

"I think we're both very romantic and both of us wanted to meet someone but we weren't sure if now was the right time.

"But do you know what, out of the whole experience, what I'm taking out of it is that there are people out there that I can relate to, that are like me.

"It was a great experience and a great date, but the positive for me is that there are other people out there like myself, so that's really reassuring."

Rob said he enjoyed the change from online dating to meeting someone face-to-face.

"I'm sure in this modern day of internet dating people have come across all kinds of things, but I would highly recommend this because the team that make First Dates, they're so amazing", he said.

"They really take time to get to know you deep down, and that's what you pair you with, they find someone like that. For me, it was probably still, even though it didn't work out, one of the best dates I was ever on.

"So what an experience. Internet dating isn't safe!" he added with a laugh.

First Dates Ireland continues next Thursday at 9.30pm on RTÉ 2.
