EastEnders is set for more tragedy with a major character to be killed off as part of the BBC soap's "heartbreaking" 35th anniversary episodes next month.

Warning: spoiler alert!

RadioTimes.com reports that many Albert Square locals will embark on a cruise along the Thames after the Queen Vic wins a 'Best Pub' competition - but the celebrations take a tragic twist.

The show's executive producer, Jon Sen, said: "For our anniversary we wanted to entertain our audience on the iconic river which has heralded the start of the show for 35 years.

"This unmissable week is destined to be exciting, gripping and heartbreaking - and will go down in EastEnders history."

EastEnders turns 35 on February 19 and episodes during its anniversary week will all be set on the same day, but the storylines will be told from different perspectives.

EastEnders airs on RTÉ One and BBC One on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
