Michelle Keegan has said she is leaving her starring role as Georgie Lane in the BBC military drama Our Girl after four years.

Ahead of her final season as Georgie, the 32-year-old former Coronation Street star told The Sun that the role had been "life-changing".

"I've loved every second of the adventure so it was a very hard decision to make not to return," she continued.

"Playing Georgie has been a life-changing role for me"

"I feel it is the right time to explore other exciting opportunities but I'm so happy to be part of the new series coming soon so it's not the end just yet."

Keegan took over as the star of Our Girl from EastEnders' Lacey Turner who had played Molly Dawes for two seasons.

The new series of Our Girl will air on the BBC later this year with Georgie returning to Afghanistan to "face her own fears".
