The actor Tony Britton, the father of presenter Fern Britton and best known for his role in the sitcom Don't Wait Up, has died at the age of 95.
Fern Britton announced her father's passing on Twitter on Sunday, writing: "Our father, Tony Britton, died early this morning. Great actor, director and charmer. May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest."

Don't Wait Up, which also starred Nigel Havers and Dinah Sheridan, ran on the BBC from 1983 to 1990.
In a career spanning over 60 years, Tony Britton's other screen credits included Holby City, The Royal, Sunday Bloody Sunday and The Day of the Jackal.
A World War II veteran, Birmingham-born Tony Britton joined an amateur dramatics group before turning professional.
He had two children, Fern Britton and scriptwriter Cherry Britton, with his first wife Ruth Hawkins.
He is predeceased by his second wife, Danish sculptor Eva Castle Britton (née Skytte Birkenfeldt). Their son is the actor Jasper Britton.
