The Big Soap Quiz: Coronation Street v Emmerdale, 9.00pm, Virgin Media One & UTV

Soap addicts love this annual get-together. The only pity is it isn't EastEnders that Corrie's up against – but this annual quiz is all about ITV bragging rights.

Stephen Mulhern hosts an epic quiz between ITV's biggest soaps, as the Coronation Street and Emmerdale casts go head to head in a battle to find out knows their soap best.

Headed by team captains Jack P Shepherd and Mark Charnock, it's impossible to forecast which side will be taking home the trophy this year. Well, unless you watch.

New or Returning Shows

The Cure, 9.00pm, Channel 4

Drama based on the inspiring real-life story of Julie Bailey, a woman who exposed one of the worst hospital care scandals in the history of the UK's NHS.

Written by Amanda Duke, it stars Sian Brooke as Julie Bailey, and Sue Johnston as her mother Bella. In 2007, Julie's elderly mum Bella was admitted to Stafford Hospital with a treatable hernia condition.

Eight weeks later she was dead, having endured appalling levels of care and neglect.

But this wasn't an isolated case. During her mum's stay in hospital, Julie and her family witnessed the routine suffering of patients in filthy wards and ignored by staff.

Heston's Marvellous Menu: Back to the Noughties, 9.00pm, BBC Two

Celebrated UK chef Heston Blumenthal takes his world-famous restaurant back to 2001 as restaurant critic Giles Coren challenges him to recreate an extraordinary tasting menu from a significant year for him.

As Blumenthal looks back to the past to prepare for the celebration, he unearths revealing truths about his life and career.

Don't Tell the Bride: Christmas in the Snow, 9.00pm, E4

Laid back Liam plans to wow his bride with a wintry white wedding - but almost 2000 miles away in Portugal, bride-to-be Georgia is dreaming of sun, sand and sangria.

Will Liam get everyone in the Christmas spirit, or is Georgia more likely to lose that loving feeling?

I'll Get This, 10.00pm, BBC Two

Five celebrities meet at a restaurant for a Christmas dinner. The catch is they play games between courses, and the loser has to pay for the entire meal.

The line-up is Gregg Wallace, Les Dennis, Maura Higgins, Shirley Ballas and Joel Dommett.

A League of Their Own's Christmas, 9.00pm, Sky One & NOW TV

This year, James is sending Jamie, Freddie and Romesh off to Austria to face a series of traditional Austrian challenges.

Heading to the Hintertux Glacier, for example, the boy’s challenge will be to learn how to do the fastest and most dangerous winter sport of them all, the Skeleton Bob.

Upright, 10.00pm, Sky Atlantic

After dropping Meg at her mother’s house in Kalgoorlie, Lucky gets a phone call from Meg’s father, worried sick about his daughter’s whereabouts.

Learning that Meg doesn’t have a mother, Lucky frantically drives back to town to find her, but is intercepted by the police who arrest him for the theft of the horse-float.

Ireland's Rich List: 21st Century Hotshots, 9.30pm, RTÉ 2

In part two, Richard Curran reveals the top 25 of those who have burst on to The Sunday Times Rich List since the year 2000.

He’ll also be looking at Ireland’s booming whiskey industry, where many believe there are fortunes to be made. And while many techies are shooting up the list, what about those who have crashed and burned?

Hector USA - Ó Chósta go Cósta, 9.30pm, TG4

Hector Ó hEochagáin crosses into California on his final trip, where he enjoys a dusty drive through the desert to Desert Hot Springs, the home of legal cannabis growing.

He also goes drag racing, visits an avocado farm and heads for San Diego for a beach clean-up.

MasterChef: the Professionals, 8.00pm, BBC Two

Tonight, the final three outstanding professionals, who have continued to stretch their abilities and surprise and dazzle the MasterChef judges with incredible plates of food, face one last challenge: to cook the best three courses of their lives.

How to Cook Well at Christmas with Rory O'Connell, 7.00pm, RTÉ One

In this two-part Christmas special, Rory O’Connell creates some interesting Christmas recipes.

His first dish is a Red Onion, Bacon and Kale (or cabbage) Broth with Grilled Bread Crouton, which is almost a meal in a bowl.

Next up is Turkey and Romanesco Pilaf with Chilli and Coriander, which is ideal for the worn-out Christmas cook and perfect for using up leftover turkey.

Then there's a Shaved Fennel and Kumquat Salad with Ardsallagh Goats Milk 'Feta', which is refreshing, followed by Rory’s Christmas dessert: Grilled Panettone Chocolate Pudding.
