Death at 82 of Friends actor Ron Leibman

The veteran actor Ron Leibman, an occasional star of Friends as Rachel Green's father, has passed away from complications from pneumonia at the age of 82.

The actor, who was born in New York in 1937 won a Best Actor Tony Award in 1993 for his performance as Roy Cohn in the play Angels in America. He had previously won an Emmy in 1979 for the series Kaz, which he created,

Notable movie roles for Leibman included Norma Rae and Slaughterhouse-Five. He played the medical doctor Plepler in two episodes of season six of The Sopranos.

He was the voice of Ron Cadillac in Archer and he played Rachel's (Jennifer Aniston) wealthy but fiery-tempered dad, Dr Leonard Green, in Friends. 

"Ron was an incredibly talented actor with a distinguished career in film, TV and theatre. Our thoughts go out to his wife, Jessica (Walter), and his family," the late actor's agent said in a statement, marking the actor's passing on Friday.

"So many of the best memories of my career have Ron Leibman in them," said actress Sally Field, who won an Oscar for her role in Norma Rae. Her tribute continued: "Thank you, Ron. For my being my champion. Rest, my friend,"
