The Vikings spin-off Valhalla will also be made in Ireland after Netflix ordered a reported 24 episodes from creator Michael Hirst and MGM Television.
Like Vikings, the series will be made at Ashford Studios in Co Wicklow.
Vikings, which filmed in Ireland for six series, is going into its final season on the History channel in the US.
US entertainment website Deadline reports that Vikings: Valhalla - from writer Jeb Stuart (Die Hard, The Fugitive) - begins 100 years after the original series.
It follows "the adventures of the most famous Vikings who ever lived: Leif Erikson, Freydis, Harald Harada and the Norman King William the Conqueror (also a Viking descendant)".
"Vikings: Valhalla promises to be everything that fans love about the franchise: heart-pounding, unstoppable action rooted in rich characters and dramatic storytelling that shines the light on family, loyalty and power," said Netflix in a statement.
Irish producer Morgan O'Sullivan, who executive produced Vikings, will take up the same role on Vikings: Valhalla.
