Harry Connick Jr proud of Irish heritage

Harry Connick Jr has spoken about his pride at being of Irish descent, saying his father raised him thinking he was born in Ireland.

The actor and singer joined Ryan Tubridy on Friday night's Late Late Show and spoke about his 93-year-old father and his family's Irish roots.

"He brought me up claiming that I was 100% Irish, he had me thinking that I was born in Ireland, he's so proud of his Irish heritage," he said.

"I wasn't born in Ireland but my family comes from Wexford, Ballyconnick is where my name comes from.

"So my whole side of the family, all of the Connicks, we love to know that we have a connection here in Ireland; it is a big deal in the Connick family."

While appearing on the Late Late, Connick performed with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, something he described as "an honour" hailing them as a "world class group of musicians."
