Walking on Cars have been announced as the headliners for the New Year's Eve countdown concert in Dublin, telling RTÉ Entertainment that they found it hard to keep mum about the news.

Joining the Dingle band on the bill at Custom House Quay on Tuesday, December 31 are Ash, Aimée and Lisa McHugh.

Tickets, priced €36.90 including booking fee, go on sale this Friday, October 18 at 9:00am from Ticketmaster outlets.

Speaking to RTÉ Entertainment at the launch event in Dublin on Wednesday, Walking on Cars bassist Paul Flannery said: "We've known about it for a couple of months. People are like, 'You must be so excited' but we've known the news for a long time."

"We're so bad at keeping secrets," he laughed. "We've told so many people back home in Dingle. We probably should have been more quiet about it. We're lucky enough we are isolated enough down there that it hasn't spread. It's really exciting though".

Flannery's bandmate, pianist Sorcha Durham, said she loves the buzz that comes with the event.

"It's going to be a great night. I love where they have it now on Custom House Quay because it's right next to the water and they've a serious light show going on."

"The amount of effort put into it every year is amazing," she added.

The New Year's Festival Dublin is billed as "bigger and better than ever" for its eighth year with Custom House Quay also playing host to the Liffey Lights Midnight Moment - Matinee and Liffey Lights Midnight Moment events. On January 1, Temple Bar will be the venue for a New Year's Day Concert for families and friends.

"We are very proud and excited to be bringing New Year's Festival to the streets of Dublin," said the city's Lord Mayor, Paul McAuliffe.

"This two-day festival programme promises to deliver a bigger party for both Dubliners and visitors alike while showcasing our beautiful city as a world class New Year's destination." For more, see: NYFDublin.com.
