Love Island's Maura Higgins has revealed she and Curtis Pritchard are officially a couple.

Speaking to OK! magazine, the Longford native said "he asked and I said yes obviously".

"He took me away for a weekend break, and he asked me out over dinner in London the next day," said the 28-year-old.

Explaining why it took him so long to ask Higgins to be his girlfriend, the professional dancer insisted he wants something "that's going to last forever".

"There's no point in rushing thing. We've only known each other a short amount of time," he said.

Last month it was revealed that Higgins will be swapping the warm climes of Majorca for a much cooler temperature this winter when she joins 10 other stars on Dancing on Ice which will air early next year.

Speaking to the show's hosts, Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield on This Morning, Higgins said: "I've skated once in my life for fun, so I've no experience at all. I'm up for the challenge. I'm more excited than scared. I'm competitive so I think that will drive me."
