Natalie Imbruglia welcomes her first child

The singer and actress Natalie Imbruglia has announced the birth of her first child after IVF treatment and the use of a sperm donor.

The former Neighbours star said that her "heart is bursting" at the arrival of baby boy she has named Max Valentine.

The 44-year-old singer-songwriter, who has a massive worldwide hit with the song Torn, first revealed she was expecting in July and said that she has become pregnant with the help of vitro fertilisation (IVF) and a sperm donor.

"For those of you who know me, this has been something I have wanted for a very long time." she said at the time.

Posting on Instagram on Tuesday night, she wrote: "Welcome to the world.. Max Valentine Imbruglia. My heart is bursting." The Australian-British performer had said she had wanted to be a mother for a "very long time" and she was "blessed" to conceive.

Imbruglia's friends have been sending their well wishes. Singer and actress Louise Redknapp said: "Congratulations babe so happy for you xxxxx."

Sophie Ellis-Bextor said: "Yay!!! Hello, Max! Welcome indeed. So glad you're here safe and sound. Congratulations, mama!!"

Jemima Khan said: "Can't wait to have a cuddle."
