Taylor Swift has hit the top spot on the US Billboard 200 with Lover, her sixth number one album in the US, and she is now the first female artist to have six different albums sell over 500,000 copies in a single week.

In its first week of release Lover sold 679,000 copies according to Billboard, the largest sales week for any album by any artist since Swift's last 2017 release Reputation.

With that Swift has now become the first female artist to have six different albums sell over 500,000 copies in a single week.

In terms of the Irish charts, Swift is now the female artist with the most Number ones this decade.

Swift has appeared in the Irish Singles Chart Top 50 on 31 occasions, exceeding the performances of her peers in pop, Ariana Grande, Rita Ora and Katy Perry.

Eight songs impacted the Top 50 from her Red album, which was her first Irish number one. Swift has had a further three chart-topping albums since, amounting to the most number ones this decade by a female artist.

The mega-selling singer has been in the Top 10 on 12 occasions, including a number four spot on four occasions. Of her major hits, all except one have made it into the Top 5. Love Story, from 2008, peaked at number three, while You Need To Calm Down peaked at number five earlier this year.

Taylor reached the number one spot on the Irish singles charts on one occasion only with Look What You Made Me Do in 2017.

Some of her songs have charted higher in Ireland than in other territories. The Swift/Sheeran collaboration, Everything Has Changed charted higher in Ireland than anywhere else.

After the pair performed the song together on Britain's Got Talent, the song reached number five in Ireland, two places higher than the UK chart, and 27 places higher than in the US chart.

Taylor took to Twitter to thank her fans for a whirlwind week.

"I just have to say to you guys, thank you so much for one of the best weeks of my life. I can't thank you enough," she said.
