Emmerdale star Laura Norton has spoken about her character Kerry's shock and horror when she catches Nate and Moira in a passionate embrace.

Coming up on the soap, Kerry is blindsided when her daughter Amy tells her she's going to tell her boyfriend Nate the truth about them being behind the factory fire which destroyed the business and killed Frank Clayton.

Norton says Kerry is "shocked to the core" as it's "life-changing for both of them", and added that Kerry "doesn't really trust Nate to begin with".

The development leaves Kerry "very paranoid and concerned", but Amy doesn't want to hear it as she's been struggling with the guilt at their actions.

The situation becomes more complicated when Kerry discovers that married Moira has been getting close and personal with Nate.

The actress explains that Kerry goes to Nate to try and talk to him about the newfound information.

"She never gets to have that conversation because when she gets to the caravan she hears noises and realises that it can't be Amy because she's just left Amy.

"She sees Nate and Moira together and is shocked!", Norton says.

Kerry quickly sees an opportunity to use Nate's indiscretion to her advantage. "She's annoyed at him for what he's done to her daughter but she sees that as an opportunity to blackmail him", the actress explains.

Norton admits that Kerry struggles with the questionable decision to force Nate to break off his relationship with Amy.

"It's solving all of her concerns but at the same time it's horrible for her to know that she's the one indirectly hurting her own daughter because she knows how much it's going to hurt her when he dumps her", Norton says.

The soap star adds that Kerry doesn't think she's going to get away with the factory fire in the long run.

"She's talking herself into it and putting on a brave face to make her daughter feel safe", the actress said. "I think this bravado internally is driving her mad, she's just not showing it to anybody. Inevitably that's what's going to make everything explode because that has to come out somehow."

Emmerdale airs on Virgin Media One and UTV Monday - Friday.
