Russi Taylor, the voice of Disney's Minnie Mouse for more than three decades, has died aged 75.

The actress died in Glendale, California on Friday, the Walt Disney Company announced.

Bob Iger, chairman and chief executive of The Walt Disney Company, said in a statement: "Minnie Mouse lost her voice with the passing of Russi Taylor.

"For more than 30 years, Minnie and Russi worked together to entertain millions around the world - a partnership that made Minnie a global icon and Russi a Disney Legend beloved by fans everywhere.

"We take comfort in the knowledge that her work will continue to entertain and inspire for generations to come."

Since 1986, Taylor provided the voiceover for Mickey Mouse's counterpart on TV, in cartoons and film, and at theme parks.

She also played characters in The Simpsons, including Bart's classmate Martin.

Life imitated art when Taylor married Wayne Allwine, the voice of Mickey until his death in 2009.

"Wayne was coming out of a session as Mickey for Totally Minnie. We met in the hallway. We just blended really well," Taylor told the LA Times in 2014.

They married in 1991, but generally "kept it quiet."

"We didn't want it to be about Mickey and Minnie being married. It was about Wayne and Russi being married. We had the best time. We laughed a lot. We were always singing. We always had music in the house", she said.
