Beth Chapman, who starred opposite her husband Duane 'Dog' Chapman in their reality series Dog the Bounty Hunter, has died after a battle with throat and lung cancer. She was 51.

Beth Chapman had been placed in a medically induced coma in a Honolulu hospital over the weekend.

Duane Chapman announced his wife's passing on his Twitter page on Wednesday, writing: "It's 5:32 in Hawaii, this is the time she would wake up to go hike Koko Head mountain. Only today, she hiked the stairway to heaven. We all love you, Beth. See you on the other side."

Beth Chapman announced in 2017 that she had been diagnosed with throat cancer and said she was cancer-free in December of that year.

Her cancer returned in November 2018 and she underwent chemotherapy before saying last month that she had decided to stop that treatment.

She starred opposite her husband in eight seasons of Dog the Bounty Hunter for US network A&E and three of the CMT spin-off series Dog & Beth: On the Hunt. They had also participated in an A&E special about her illness, Dog & Beth: Fight of Their Lives.

The couple first met when Beth Chapman was 19 and Duane Chapman was 35. After an on-off relationship for a number of years, they became business partners in 1995 and married in 2006.

At the age of 29, Beth Chapman is reported to have become the youngest bail bond agent in the history of her home state of Colorado. Her record was subsequently beaten by her stepdaughter, Lyssa Chapman, who obtained her licence at 19.

Recently, Beth and Duane Chapman had been working on a planned new series, Dog's Most Wanted, for the network WGN America.

Paying tribute, WGN America said: "She was an exceptional woman, fiercely loyal and passionate about her family and she was a true joy to work with. All of us at WGN America will miss her tremendously. Our thoughts and prayers are with Duane, her family, loved ones and millions of fans."
