There were tense scenes in Tuesday's Love Island following the departure of Irish contestant Yewande Biala.

Danny Williams faced backlash following his decision to pick newcomer Arabella Chi over the Dubliner.

"It's just unfortunate how people can hold a grudge for me doing what's best for myself," he said.

In the Beach Hut fellow contestant Anton Danyluk - who chose to save Lucie Donlan instead of Yewande - said there is "definitely a divide" in the villa.

"I think people need to remember that these decisions aren't easy to make," he continued. "And we've not made them out of nastiness for anyone; we've made these decisions which are best for us and people shouldn't put so much pressure on it."

When Danny and Arabella kissed with the other Islanders close by, Amber Gill felt they are "conducting themselves in such a bad way".

"I just feel like, 'What do I have in common with you?' It just doesn't sit right with me," she says in the Beach Hut.

Tensions escalated between Amber and Danny and Arabella, with Amber accusing him of talking about her after she had given him the opportunity to raise any issues directly.

"I just want to say I gave you an opportunity to squash anything there so don't say anything further about the situation unless it's directly to those people over there," she says.

"I'm not shy of saying things to anybody," he replies. "You have my word, if I've got a problem I'll bring it to all of you."

"Your word doesn't really mean that much at this point does it?" Amber answers.

Danny Williams - "I really do hope that the dust has settled a bit tomorrow"

Danny later said he is hoping that things will cool down under the sun.

"I really do hope that the dust has settled a bit tomorrow," he adds. "I understand that things are a bit raw and a bit fresh.

"The bottom line is some of the girls in this villa have lost a really good friend. That can't be hidden, it can't be forgotten and it should be respected. I will be respecting of that."

Love Island continues on Virgin Media Two and ITV2 at 9:00pm.
