The best-selling author Judith Krantz, whose books sold over 80 million copies and included Scruples and Mistral's Daughter, has died at the age of 91.

Krantz is reported to have passed away from natural causes at her home in Bel Air, California on June 22.

Born Judith Tarcher in New York City in 1928, Krantz worked as a fashion publicist, journalist and editor before turning her talents to fiction with her first novel Scruples in 1977.

Scruples, like Mistral's Daughter, became a hit TV miniseries, and Krantz's other works included Princess Daisy, I'll Take Manhattan and Till We Meet Again - all adapted for television - and the autobiography Sex and Shopping: The Confessions of a Nice Jewish Girl.

Predeceased by her husband, producer Stephen Falk Krantz, in 2007, she is survived by her sons, daughter-in-law and grandchildren.
