R Kelly has been charged with 11 more sex crime charges in Chicago.

The 52-year-old singer, real name Robert Sylvester Kelly, already had been facing 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, filed in February, for the alleged abuse of four women.

His arrest came after years of allegations of sexual abuse from women and underage girls.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on bail.

R Kelly's lawyer Steve Greenberg said the latest charges did not relate to a new case and that they are refiled charges related to one of the four accusers.

"He was recharged in an existing case, same alleged victim and time (a decade ago) It changes nothing," he wrote on Twitter.

"These are the same conduct, just charged differently, same alleged victim, same time frame, same facts. We expect the same results."

Court documents reportedly show the sexual offences release to sexual assault and abuse of a minor aged between 13 and 16,.

He will appear in court on June 6 on the new charges, US media reports.

In March, Kelly tearfully denied allegations of sexual abuse and said he was "fighting" for his life.

In an interview with CBS This Morning's Gayle King, he said: "I didn't do this stuff. This is not me."

Kelly's arrest in February came after the documentary series Surviving R Kelly renewed attention on decades of accusations against the performer, including child pornography, sex with minors, operating a sex cult and sexual battery.

After a dramatic trial he was acquitted in 2008 of charges of child pornography, also in Chicago.
