RTÉ is bringing a new period mystery series, Dead Still, to screens next year, with Luther star Michael Smiley in the lead role of an Irish photographer-turned-sleuth.
The six-part series is set in 1880s Ireland and follows Brock Blennerhasset (Smiley), "a renowned memorial photographer as he investigates the murders of his recently deceased subjects".
Filming is already under way in Dublin and the cast also includes Kerr Logan (Game of Thrones), Eileen O'Higgins (Brooklyn), Aidan O'Hare (Jackie), Mark Rendall (Departure), Martin Donovan (Big Little Lies) and Jimmy Smallhorne (Taken Down).
The Irish-Canadian co-production, which has been written by John Morton, has Imogen Murphy (Can't Cope, Won't Cope, Red Rock) and Craig David Wallace (Slasher, Todd and the Book of Pure Evil) behind the lens.
Dublin company Deadpan Pictures is among the producers, with the series supported by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) and developed with the support of Fís Eireann/Screen Ireland and Creative Europe.
Shane Murphy, RTÉ's Group Head of Drama and Comedy, described Dead Still as "truly unique".
"We can't wait to introduce this mysterious and intriguing drama to Irish audiences," he added.
