Arnold Schwarzenegger has reassured fans after a video was shared on social media showing him being attacked during an event in South Africa.

The 71-year-old actor-turned-politician was recording a Snapchat video during a sporting event in Johannesburg when an individual ran up behind him and drop-kicked him in the back.

Schwarzenegger took to Twitter after the incident to tell his followers he is fine, writing: "Thanks for your concerns, but there is nothing to worry about. I thought I was just jostled by the crowd, which happens a lot.

"I only realized I was kicked when I saw the video like all of you. I'm just glad the idiot didn't interrupt my Snapchat."

The attack happened at the Arnold Classic Africa sporting event at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, according to the Sandton Chronicle.

The attacker was quickly detained by security, organisers said.

Schwarzenegger also asked his fans watch videos of some of the Arnold Sports athletes instead of sharing the video of his attack.
