Acting legend Barbara Windsor made a rare public appearance following her Alzheimer's diagnosis on Wednesday (April 3).

The former EastEnders and Carry On star was joined by her husband Scott Mitchell to a performance of Only Fools and Horses: The Musical on London's West End.

Following the show, the couple met the cast, including Paul Whitehouse, Ryan Hutton and Tom Bennett, and posed for pictures, and the 81-year-old appeared to be in good spirits.

It was only Windsor's second public appearance since her husband revealed she had Alzheimer's disease in May 2018, four years after the original diagnosis.

After the performance of the West End musical adaptation of the hit BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses, Windsor said she enjoyed it immensely.

"The show was wonderful," she said according to The Daily Mail. "It’s the kind of show I really love and I love Del Boy.

"It's the best entertainment I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying in ages. I felt such a warmth from the audience. I would give it five stars!"

In March, Windsor's husband Mitchell hit out at trolls who claimed he is selling stories about his wife's dementia, saying they "are totally missing the point". He has taken part in a number of interviews in order to raise money for dementia charities.

Windsor, famous for her roles in nine Carry On films and for playing pub landlord Peggy Mitchell in EastEnders, was given the heartbreaking Alzheimer's diagnosis on April 22, 2014.

She last appeared in EastEnders in May 2016 when Peggy Mitchell died after refusing treatment for cancer.
