Harry Potter author J.K Rowling has revealed that Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald's relationship had a 'sexual dimension' which was both 'passionate' and 'intense'.

Rowling has enlightened fans in the Distinctly Dumbledore feature on the Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald Blu-Ray concerning the characters played by Jude Law and Johnny Depp in the films of her books.

"Their relationship was incredibly intense," Rowling said. "It was passionate, and it was a love relationship. But as happens in any relationship, gay or straight or whatever label we want to put on it, one never knows really what the other person is feeling. You can’t know, you can believe you know.'

The mega-selling author said that she was 'less interested' in the sexual element and was more involved as creator of the characters "in the sense of the emotions they felt for each other, which ultimately is the most fascinating thing about all human relationships."

Fantastic Beasts 2

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is the second instalment in the five-part Harry Potter prequel and has just been released on DVD/VOD.

Rowling revealed last December that she has concluded the third instalment and Law and Depp are expected to reprise their roles, with Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander.

"This is a story about two men who loved each other, and ultimately have to fight each other," said director David Yates. "It’s a story for the 21st century."
