The Good Fight

There's a new Italian mob drama on Sky Atlantic, a documentary about a women's refuge, and The Good Fight continues its superb second season . . .

Pick of the Day

The Miracle, 9.00pm, Sky Atlantic & NOW TV

If you enjoyed the mob drama series Gomorrah – and loads of television viewers certainly did – here's the latest contribution from those slick storeytellers at Sky Italia.

The Miracle is written by bestselling Italian novelist Niccolò Ammaniti, and there's a double episode on offer tonight to really get the ball rolling . . .

During an operation at a mob boss’s hideout, police find a sculpture of the Virgin Mary, which appears to be weeping blood. This is something which would be a big deal, especially in southern Italy.

With no explanation forthcoming, haematologist Sandra, mob boss Molocco, fallen priest Marcello, Italian Premier Pietromarchi and everyone else who comes across the statue is drawn into the mystery, with life-changing results.

Here's the trailer in Italian, but you'll get the drift:

New or Returning Shows

Safe at Last: Inside a Women's Refuge, 10.00pm, Channel 4

In a television first, cameras have been allowed inside a women's refuge to follow women who have agreed to be identified.

Filmed over a year, the programme follows their stories as they flee from violent partners and attempt to rebuild their lives.

Narrated by Julie Walters - a campaigner against domestic abuse - this is also the story of a refuge struggling for the money to stay open, despite government commitments to tackle domestic abuse.

Storyville  - Defying the Cutting Season, 10.30pm, BBC Four

Every year during the December school holidays the ‘cutting season’ takes place in Tanzania. Even though Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is illegal, thousands of young girls are forced to undergo an ordeal that could cost them their lives.

This documentary follows the brave and courageous girls fighting against a tradition that goes back thousands of years and reveals the one safe place to where they can escape.

Set in the stunning landscape of East Africa’s Serengeti district, this is ultimately a hopeful story of brave young girls standing up for their human rights and fighting for change in their community.

Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments: Season 3B, Netflix

This fantasy drama ends after its current third season, and will at least give fans closure, as it includes two extra episodes that will wrap the story.

The saga of Clary Fray and her adventures with angels, demons, vampires and werewolves wraps up in what's promising to be a surprising and thrilling series conclusion.

Don't Miss
