Publisher HarperCollins has confirmed that a second novel from the author Dan Mallory is on the way, despite revelations this week that he lied about having brain cancer.
The Woman in the Window writer was the subject of an in-depth New Yorker profile which alleged he had a long history of fabricating stories about his health, personal life and academic achievements.
In a statement released in response, Mallory confirmed he had lied about having brain cancer, saying "on numerous occasions in the past, I have stated, implied, or allowed others to believe that I was afflicted with a physical malady instead of a psychological one: cancer, specifically".
A spokesperson for HarperCollins UK has confirmed there has been no change to its publishing plans for Mallory's second novel, which he will again release under the pseudonym AJ Finn.
It has been slated for a January 2020 release, following on from his January 2018 best-selling debut The Woman in the Window.
The New Yorker reported the novel will be set in San Francisco, and will be "a story of revenge involving a female thriller writer and an interviewer who learns of a dark past".
When approached for a comment on the revelations, HarperCollins said: "We don't comment on the personal lives of our employees or authors.
"Professionally, Dan was a highly valued editor and the publication of The Woman in the Window - a Sunday Times bestseller - speaks for itself."
Mallory was a book editor before he released his 2018 best-selling psychological thriller.
It went straight to number one in the New York Times bestseller list and has been made into a film starring Amy Adams and Gary Oldman that is due to be released later this year.
