"We've come so far in this journey and we have the medical tools we need to help every single person at risk of or living with HIV to live a normal life, " Musician Elton John declared this morning, welcoming the AIDSfree Cities Global Forum.

Over 100 delegates attended the AIDSfree Cities Global Forum in Mayfair, London following an eight-week campaign in league with the Elton John AIDS Foundation to fight the disease which has claimed 36 million lives so far.

Aids is still the biggest killer of women of reproductive age, and each week about 7,000 young women are infected with HIV.

"I’m thrilled that city leaders and health ministers from around the world have come together to drive forward the global fight to end Aids," Elton John declared.

"What we need now is collaboration across cities to have long-lasting impact and to make sure no one, wherever they may be, is left behind. Today’s forum is an example of exactly that, so thank you to everyone involved."
