Ryan Reynolds has delayed an operation on his arm to promote Deadpool 2 ahead of the franchise's unexpected theatrical debut in China.

Last week, Fox announced that a re-cut, PG-13 Deadpool 2 would hit Chinese cinemas starting this Friday, making it the first time the franchise has passed the country's strict censorship rules.

The 42-year-old actor had been due to go under the knife on Sunday after sustaining an injury while shooting the movie, but Reynolds cancelled the appointment to support his ''dream'' coming true.

According to Variety, he told fans in Beijing: ''It's been a dream of mine for years to bring Deadpool to China and Chinese audiences, so for me this is, uh, heaven on earth.

''This was more important [than the operation]. I was not going to miss coming to China.''

Deadpool 2’s re-edited PG-13 version, Once Upon a Deadpool, has been renamed Deadpool 2: I Love My Family for its release in China. The title is borrowed from a 1990s Chinese television show of the same name centered around a Beijing family.

The Chinese release of Deadpool 2: I Love My Family marks the first time the franchise has been allowed to be screened in the country.

Both 2016’s R-rated Deadpool and last summer’s R-rated Deadpool 2 were prohibited from screening in the country because of their harsh violence and language.

Reynolds previously revealed his doctor 'prescribed him with a stuntman' after he broke his neck while filming 2013's Safe House.

''I've had some bad injuries doing stunts. I broke a couple of vertebrae in my neck. It was a bad situation," the actor told Empire magazine.

''I remember the doctor sitting in the office - it was about the seventh time I had been there that year - and he writes on a prescription pad, rips off the note and it reads 'Stuntman'. Point taken.

''So now I use four different guys that come with me. Thankfully nothing scary happened on this one [The Hitman's Bodyguard].''
