Curb Your Enthusiasm star Bob Einstein has died at the age of 76, his brother has confirmed.

Einstein's brother, actor Albert Brooks, wrote on Twitter, "R.I.P. My dear brother Bob Einstein.

"A great brother, father and husband. A brilliantly funny man. You will be missed forever."

Einstein had reportedly been diagnosed with cancer recently.

The actor was known for his role as Marty Funkhouser, a friend of Larry David on HBO comedy series Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Einstein also created the character Super Dave Osbourne, an injury-prone stuntman. He appeared on a number of shows including Late Night With David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien and Anger Management.

Along with his acting work, Einstein was also an Emmy-winning writer, taking home an award as part of the writing team on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour and one for his work on Dick Van Dyke's variety show Van Dyke and Company, on which he also performed. He was twice nominated for writing The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour.
