Ariana Grande is said to have turned down an honorary UK damehood for her work with victims of the Manchester Arena concert bombing in May, 2017.

The 25-year-old singer visited victims of the Manchester terror attack in hospital and organised the One Love charity concert in the city just two weeks after the atrocity.

The Sun quoted a source as saying: "Ariana was flattered but said it was too soon. She explained she was still grieving. So were scores of families.

"She feared some affected might see it as insensitive. The committee wrote to her but she politely said no."

Another source was quoted as saying that she was "deeply moved" and "honoured" but felt it was not the right time to accept.

The Honours Committee reportedly wanted to make her a Dame Commander of the British Empire, a title which can be given to non-UK nationals.
