Saoirse Ronan and Kate Winslet are to play lovers in a new Hollywood movie.

The pair will appear in Ammonite, a dramatic love story by God’s Own Country writer and director Francis Lee.

24-year-old Ronan will play a young, wealthy London woman who is sent to live by the sea to help her health recuperate.

While there she meets Mary Anning - a real-life British paleontologist from the 1800s - and the two embark on an intense relationship that will change their lives.

It is the second period drama in succession for Ronan who will shortly be seen in the latest movie based on legendary British monarch, Mary Queen of Scots.
