US First Lady Melania Trump has defended her choice of red Christmas trees after they inspired jokes and memes online.
On Monday, the first lady posted a video on Twitter showing how the White House has been decorated this festive season.

The bright red trees were the source of a barrage of teasing online, with many commentators saying it reminded them of the red costumes in the dystopian TV series The Handmaid's Tale, or the famous corridor scene from the classic horror movie The Shining.

Melania Trump has now defended her choice of Christmas trees during a panel discussion at Liberty University, saying: "We are in 21st century and everybody has a different taste. I think they look fantastic."
