US actor John Malkovich has said that he is concerned about how fans will react to him playing Poirot in a BBC adaptation of Agatha Christie's The ABC Murders.
Malkovich said that fans "may just hate" his take on the Belgian detective.
Ahead of the new version of the series Agatha Christie's estate were also consulted.
Speaking to the Radio Times magazine, Malkovich said: "There was a certain amount of convincing the Agatha Christie estate about this version, and I was involved in some of those conversations."
He said: "There was never anything unpleasant or difficult. But obviously this is a very known and loved character, and there may have been some worries that we weren't, as it were, saluting that."
The director Alex Gabassi has asked Malkovich to have a bald head and a goatee and to speak with an English accent for the adaptation by Sarah Phelps, who has previously worked on The Witness For The Prosecution.
