Irish singer Timmy Matley, from the band The Overtones, died after falling from a balcony in a "drug-related accident", a coroner has concluded.

The report, which was issued after Wednesday's inquest at Poplar Coroner's Court in London, stated his death was a "drug-related accident" in which he died from "multiple traumatic injuries".

It said: "When Timmy Matley fell from a 13th floor balcony having arrived, intoxicated with crystal meth, at the home of a friend and then having been locked out on the balcony, he tried to climb down and fell at approximately 10.35am on Monday April 9 2018."

A statement from the band issued after the hearing said: "We will not be making any comment other than to say that Timmy, our funny, talented, beautiful friend, bandmate and brother, was dearly loved and he is deeply missed."

The news of Matley's death was confirmed by his bandmates Mark Franks, Mike Crawshaw, Darren Everest and Lachie Chapman on Twitter in April.

They wrote: "It is with the greatest sadness that we have to announce that our dear friend and brother Timmy has passed away.

"We know this news will be as heartbreaking for you all as it is for us. We appreciate your love and support at this difficult time."

Fans originally thought Matley had passed away following his battle with skin cancer.

Originally from Farranree in Co Cork, Matley began performing at the age of 14. He moved to London at 17 and in his early twenties he auditioned for The X Factor, making it to the bootcamp stage of the competition.

Matley joined The Overtones, originally called DYCE, in 2010. The five-member vocal harmony group were discovered by a talent scout, who heard them singing while working as decorators on London's Oxford Street.

They went on to have four top 10 albums in the UK, with their debut studio album, Good Ol' Fashioned Love, reaching number 4.

Matley continued to perform for a time with the group following a diagnosis of stage three melanoma, a form of skin cancer, in 2016.
