Orri Páll Dýrason, drummer with Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós, has quit the band after being accused of sexually assaulting a woman in 2013.
The 41-year-old musician announced his resignation on Monday after being accused of raping Los Angeles artist Meagan Boyd in the United States.
Posting on his official Facebook page, Dýrason wrote: "In light of the scale of this matter, I have decided to leave Sigur Rós. That is a difficult decision for me, but I cannot have these serious allegations influence the band and the important and beautiful work that has been done there for the last years. A job that is so dear to me."
The Reykjavik group also took to Facebook to acknowledge Dýrason's resignation had been accepted.
"In the wake of the extremely serious and personal allegations made against him in recent days we have today accepted the resignation of our bandmate Orri Pall Dyrason to allow him to deal with this privately," the band said.
Sigur Ros formed in 1994 and won international acclaim for their album Agaetis Byrjun, released in 1999.
Mr Dýrason joined in 1999 after the band's drummer left following the recording of their second album, Ágætis byrjun.
