Irish actor Sean Mahon, who recently made his debut as the mysterious Ray Kelly on EastEnders, has teased his character's upcoming storyline and big secret.
Soap viewers haven't been able to get a handle on Ray, the mysterious ex-husband of Mel Owen, and step-dad to her son, Hunter, and former Red Rock star Mahon says he is enjoying the enigma and fan theories surrounding the role.
"It’s always great to come in with a secret that you’re slowly divulging and you sometimes forget that you know where it’s heading and then you read the possible guesses online and you’re like 'that’s so not the right direction!'", he told the Metro.
The actor teased that more will be revealed about their family history in the coming weeks.
"It’s great to hold the cards and to play them slowly. I think in the coming weeks, we will certainly see how the history of the family pulls them together very quickly – and they become a unit. With any long standing relationship though, there’s always a fly in the ointment and that will start to raise itself."
It is not clear whether Ray Kelly has genuine feelings for his ex Mel Owen (Tamzin Outhwaite) or if she is in for more pain.

Mahon enthused about acting alongside Outhwaite on the show, saying they spark off one another on set.
He said: "I have such respect and admiration for her. When I was watching the show before I joined, she just jumped off the screen. I was slightly intimidated to have to match that.
"She has been nothing but generous, joyous and fun – highly prepared, it’s been great. There’s a little bit of a frisson between Mel and Ray already – we work very similarly, Tamzin and I.
"We enjoy getting in early and preparing beforehand. It’s a bit like theatre – reading into the characters. When you find an actor that you can jive with, it creates a bit of magic."
