Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy was named Best Actor at the TV Choice Awards in London on Monday, with the BBC Two crime series also named Best Drama on the night.

The Cork actor saw off the challenge of his fellow Irish star, Poldark's Aidan Turner, along with Casualty's William Beck and Doc Martin's Martin Clunes to win at the awards, which are voted for by the public.

Michelle Keegan was named Best Actress for her performance in military drama series Our GirlCall the Midwife's Linda Bassett, Vera's Brenda Blethyn and Murphy's Peaky Blinders co-star Helen McCrory had also been nominated.

Coronation Street was named Best Soap with Emmerdale's Emma Atkins winning Best Soap Actress and EastEnders' Danny Dyer named Best Soap Actor.

Other winners included Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway (Best Entertainment Show), Strictly Come Dancing (Best Talent Show) and I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! (Best Reality Show).
