Elton John has reportedly been paid £5 million (almost €6m) to star in the John Lewis Christmas advert for 2018.

According to The Mail on Sunday, the 71-year old musician spent four days recording the glitzy commercial at London’s Pinewood Studios. Scenes were also filmed at a studio in Hammersmith, West London.

It seems the iconic rocker will perform a version of the singer's 1970 hit, Your Song, featuring an affectionate, biographical storyline replete with Christmas-related events from the past.

Actors will play him in his youth, when he was known to all as Reginald Dwight. He will be seen opening presents with family members and making other generous seasonal gestures, infused with yuletide goodwill.

The lucrative deal with the singer is believed to be part of the strong bid by the John Lewis firm to win attention in the Christmas TV campaign league, against key rivals such as Marks & Spencer who customarily mount an eye-catching ad.

Elton embarked on the project following his return from the South of France, where he and husband David Furnish had been on holiday with the Beckhams.
