Jamie Oliver reportedly pinned a burglar to the ground after he tried to break into his house.
The celebrity chef chased the would-be thief down the street while neighbours dialled 999, according to The Daily Mirror.
Jamie's wife Jools Oliver - whom he married in 2000 - and their five children were present at their house in Highgate, North London, when the incident occurred.
A spokeswoman for Scotland Yard said in a statement: "At 7.13pm on Tuesday, September 4th, police were called to reports of an aggressive male attempting to gain entry to residential addresses in N6.
"The male was apprehended by members of the public and was subsequently detained by police.
"He was taken to a north London police station where he remains at this time. Officers from Central North Command Unit are investigating."
A source told the newspaper of the incident: "Jamie went absolutely mad and sprinted after the man down the street before catching up with him and pinning him down to the floor.
"He was then joined by his driver and a handful of neighbours who helped him hold down the burglar until police arrived to arrest him."
Jamie Cooks Italy is currently to be seen on Channel 4 on Monday nights at 8pm. Tonight he is in Sicily cooking sweet and sour tuna.
