Hozier is back with a new EP Nina Cried Power and he said the title track is inspired by the the "spirit of protest" embodied by artists and musicians such as Nina Simone and Bob Dylan.

The 28-year-old musician follows his incredibly successful self-titled debut album four years on, with a four track EP Nina Cried Power.

Speaking about the title track Hozier said, "Nina cries power is best described as a thank you note to the spirit of the work of artists and musicians who we can draw inspiration from the legacy of that."

"The legacy of people like Mavis Staples, Nina Simone, you have the Woody Guthries and Pete Seegers, Curtis Mayfields and Bob Dylans of the world and whose work embodied a certain spirit of protest in fairly uncertain times," the musician said in a video posted to his Instagram account.

Hozier took to the stage in Dublin's Academy for three live shows to mark the release of his new songs, with all proceeds going to charities the Peter McVerry Trust, Safe Ireland and One in Four, and he thanked fans for turning out to support the "really great causes."

"It’s been incredible to finally share Nina Cried Power with you and playing it live for the first time this week @academydublin supporting @safeireland, @oneinfourirish and the @pmvtrust," Hozier shared on social media.

"Big thank you to everyone who made it to one of the three very fun live rehearsals, you supported a really great cause also," he said.
