Veteran British actress Liz Fraser - who appeared in several Carry On films - has died at the age of 88.

She became best known for her comedy roles in British films of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Fraser also had a starring role in British TV's first soap opera, Sixpenny Corner, on ITV from 1955-56.

She appeared in a string of 1960s Carry On films after her first break in the Boulting brothers' classic satire I'm All Right Jack in 1959, which launched Peter Sellers' movie career.

Fraser played the daughter of Sellers' character, trade unionist Fred Kite, and she received a BAFTA nomination as Most Promising Newcomer for her performance.

She was in several of the early Carry On films - Carry On Regardless (1961), Carry On Cruising (1962), and Carry On Cabby (1963) - but was reportedly sacked by producer Peter Rogers after casually saying the series could be better marketed.

She returned for 1975's Carry On Behind and also went on to star in the bawdy Confessions films.

Later in her career she featured in a variety of TV shows, including Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased), Last of the Summer Wine, The Bill, Birds of a Feather, Minder and Holby City.

Tributes to the late actress have poured in on Twitter.
