Love Island is moving to the US for a new series after its ratings success in the UK, with ITV Entertainment set to produce the American version of the reality romance series.

Entertainment industry website Deadline.com reports that American network CBS has acquired the US rights to the Love Island format and has ordered a full series.

While no premiere date has been pencilled in, Deadline has tipped the series to start next spring or summer in the US alongside CBS' Big Brother.

The recent series of Love Island, which was won by Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham, broke ITV2's records for the most-watched programme in the digital channel's history.

CBS' Head of Alternative Programming Sharon Vuong said: "Love Island has been a massive success overseas.

"It's currently seen, or about to premiere in several European countries as well as Australia, and we're thrilled that ITV has partnered with us to bring their most successful show to American television."

"Having seen the reaction of audiences 'across the pond' and around the world to this most recent season, we expect American viewers will be captivated by this engaging format," Vuong continued.

"Additionally, Love Island is more than a pop sensation; this series has generated compelling 'sociological think pieces' in major publications here and abroad."
