As she's about to make her return to music, X Factor boss Simon Cowell is reported to be keen for former judge Cheryl to appear on the hit show as a performer.

The music mogul is said to be battling it out with Strictly Come Dancing to get the 35-year-old singer as a guest performer, and Cowell is hoping that her loyalty to The X Factor will swing her in favour of that show.

A source told The Sun: "There's a massive race on for who can land Cheryl to perform her new material.

"Simon is doing everything in his power to make sure they box her off - It would be a massive embarrassment if Strictly got her with an offer she can’t refuse.

"He’s told her he will throw his weight behind her new album 100 per cent regardless, as they are mates, but he expects her to show her loyalty by choosing X Factor."

Cheryl first appeared as a judge on The X Factor from 2008 to 2011 when she replaced Sharon Osbourne, and returned for two more seasons from 2014 to 2015.

She also has a history of debuting her new singles on the massively popular ITV talent show, from Fight For This Love in 2009 to I Don't Care in 2014.

Cheryl was tipped to return to the judging panel this year, but it has since been confirmed that Simon Cowell will be joined by Robbie Williams and his wife Ayda Field, and Louis Tomlinson.

While she won't be a judge on the hit singing show, she has been confirmed to appear alongside Cowell in the new BBC show The Greatest Dancer.

Joining them on the show are Britain's Got Talent's Alesha Dixon and Strictly Come Dancing professional Oti Mabuse.
