Jonathan Rhys Meyers has been speaking about the in-flight e-cigarette incident that saw him briefly detained by police at Los Angeles' LAX airport earlier this month, saying that it began because he "very stupidly decided to order a drink".
Having already said that he was "extremely sorry for any inconveniences caused", the Irish actor discussed the incident again when he was a guest on Larry King Now in the US earlier this week.
"My wife [Mara Lane] and I had been travelling since 3 o'clock in the morning from Peru back to Los Angeles," Meyers recounted.
"And they gave away our tickets - it was just a problem with the airline, they gave away the tickets. So we had our baby, who was teething at the time, and it was all kind of frustrating.
"So we eventually got on the flight and my wife went to sleep and I very stupidly decided to order a drink.
"When my wife found that I'd ordered a drink, she got very, very angry with me."
"Why?" asked King.
"Because I shouldn't drink," the Vikings star replied. "It doesn't suit me and I had been sober for a long time."
"And so I felt that mistake," he continued. "I got upset and I took out an e-cigarette. And the airline staff told me that I wasn't allowed to smoke an e-cigarette so I put it away.
"And then I spoke to the Los Angeles police once we got there, who were incredibly kind. Incredibly understanding. I apologised for my behaviour, and that's the entire story."

"It is a good opportunity to apologise to anybody who was offended that that incident happened, but I learned my lesson," Meyers added. "As soon as I got off the airplane I went and I spoke to somebody and I got back on track immediately."
"When you landed, were the police waiting for you?" inquired King.
"Yes, but they just wanted to have a conversation and they were so kind, so friendly," said Meyers.
"I mean, sometimes you hear things about the police, and I couldn't have met nicer, kinder, more understanding gentlemen."
