Irish actor Aidan Gillen stars as a UFO skeptic-turned-believer in the new drama series Project Blue Book, check out the creepy first trailer from the show here.

The Game of Thrones actor, who finished up as the conniving Littlefinger at the end of the seventh season last year, returns to the small screen in the lush looking drama from the History channel.

Project Blue Book chronicles the top-secret U.S. Air Force program of the same name that ran between 1952 and 1969 and investigated over 12,000 reported sightings of UFOs.

Aidan Gillen plays Dr J. Allen Hynek in Project Blue Book

Gillen takes on the leading role of Dr J. Allen Hynek, a college professor who is recruited by the Air Force to spearhead the clandestine operation that researched thousands of cases, many of which were never solved.

The 10-episode series, which also stars Neal McDonough, Laura Mennell and Michael Malarkey, draws on actual files from the operation, giving it the tantalizing description "based on true events".

Showrunner Sean Jablonklsi told Entertainment Weekly that it's "a government conspiracy show with a great sci-fi twist" while leading star Gillen said it will raise questions for viewers.

"Some things are explained in a logical, scientific manner, and some things can’t be", he said. "That’s the way it was for [the real] Hynek."

Our interest is well and truly piqued. Check out the atmospheric and decidedly unsettling trailer for the show below.
