John Malkovich has been added to the cast of The New Pope - Paolo Sorrentino's follow-up his acclaimed HBO/Sky limited series The Young Pope.
The 64-year-old has appeared in more than 70 films and was Oscar-nominated for his roles in Places in the Heart and In the Line of Fire. He's also films such as Ghost World, Juno, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
Jude Law, who played the lead in The New Pope, will also feature, although it's not certain that he will be reprising his Golden Globe-nominated role as Lenny Belardo/Pius XIII.
To add to the confusion at this early stage, rumour has it that Malkovich will be portraying the pontiff part in The New Pope.
Filming on The New Pope is expected to get underway in Italy this November, with Sorrentino writing the series along with Umberto Contarello and Stefano Bises.
