Payne was scheduled to perform at a radio station in Kansas yesterday(Saturday) but the gig was cancelled and he took a plane back to London to be with Cheryl for her 35th birthday celebrations.
The 24-year old One Direction star and one-time X Factor judge flew back to UK to help Cheryl celebrate her birthday after, as The Sun reports, fate intervened and his US appearance was cancelled.
The pair, who have a 16-month old son Bear have not been seen together in four months. BRIT Awards in February was the last occasion when fans saw them walking the carpet together.
The have been an item since 2016 but rumours have abounded to the effect that the liaison was over.
In a recent interview with ES magazine, Payne revealed that there have been 'struggles' but that the couple managed their issues together 'as a family.'
Last week singer also declared that Cheryl had made the first approach as the relationship rekindled during 2014's season of The X Factor.
As well as looking aftere their son, Cheryl has been working on her new album, while looking after her charitable trust.
In a recent social media post, she expressed thanks for birthday wishes.
"Go shorty it’s my birthday, " she wrote on Instagram."Thank you so much for all my lovely birthday wishes."
